Frequently asked questions.
Some of the most commonly asked questions about the GO Active! GPS alarm plan.
Pacemaker users must not wear the Chiptech GOTM device around the neck.
Please note, the fall sensor inside the Chiptech GOTM is only effective if the device is worn around the neck.
For this reason, we advise customers who use a pacemaker who want the reassurance of automatic fall detection to look at our Fall Alarm plan (not GPS-enabled).
When you activate your pendant alarm, we’ll speak to you through the loudspeaker and microphone built-in to your Chiptech GOTM pendant.
If we cannot communicate with you via the base unit, we will call your phone to ensure everything is okay. If there is no response, we will call keyholders or – if the situation requires – the emergency services.
If you have trouble hearing us when we speak to you through your alarm, we’ll call one of your emergency contacts to check that you are okay.
The Chiptech GOTM is worn around the neck on the included hypoallergenic chain.
Important: The fall sensor inside the Chiptech GOTM is only effective if the device is worn around the neck and over clothing.
If you use a pacemaker, you must not wear the Chiptech GOTM device around your neck. For this reason, we advise customers who use a pacemaker not to purchase our GO! GPS plan if they also want the reassurance of automatic fall detection.
For a fall detection device that can be worn by pacemaker users, see our Fall Alarm plan (not GPS-enabled).
The Chiptech GOTM GPS alarm uses the mobile phone network (also known as GSM) to communicate with our careline team.
In order to ensure the best possible service, the device comes fitted with an UK-wide roaming SIM card which connects to the strongest signal of any mobile network that is available in your area.
If you are unsure as to whether the Chiptech GOTM GPS alarm is suitable for you, give us a call and we’ll help you find the solution that’s right for you.
Please note that the mobile network coverage in your area or the strength of the signal that you are able to receive inside your home are elements that are outside of our control.
Telephone landline service is not needed with GO Active! GPS alarms. The device uses mobile phone network and GPS technology to connect you to our team and send your exact location when you trigger your alarm.
Epilepsy or dementia can cause changes in someone’s behaviour, movement or in level of consciousness. Not only that, someone with epilepsy or dementia can have falling and memory loss issues. In order for assistance to be available, it is wise for those with epilepsy or dementia to use the GPS alarm.
If the GO Active! GPS Alarm is accidentally activated, the monitoring centre will contact the individual to ensure that everything is okay. If they cannot reach anyone, they may contact emergency services as a precaution.
Our team is trained to respond to any and every call for help, even those that are made by accident. You should not worry about calling for help accidentally.
At Telecare24, we don’t mind accidental calls because it lets us know that your device is working properly should you ever really need us.
The GO Active! GPS alarms are designed to recognise when they are thrown or dropped and do not activate. This is to prevent accidental calls for help which send an alert to a monitoring service.
GO Active! GPS alarms are waterproof and are fine to wear in the bath or shower.
The GOTM GPS alarm has what is known as an ‘IP67’ rating. This means that it has been officially tested and certified as being waterproof at a depth of up to 1m for no more than 30 minutes.
The battery in the GO Active! GPS alarm is rechargeable and lasts over a week on a single charge.
Yes. Unlike most other telecare alarms which are ‘in home’ devices, the GO Active! GPS alarm doesn’t require a base unit in order to work, so it is unaffected by power cuts in the home.
Please note, however, that a power cut would prevent you from being able to charge the device during that time.
